Getting Extra Ice for Your Team

(Updated October 2025)

There are 2 ways to get ice: Directly through Hockey Edmonton’s available ice webpage, or by making a request for city ice through the SWZ Ice Allocator.

1. Hockey Edmonton (HE) Ice

First check Hockey Edmonton (HE) ice here:
https://www.playhockeyedmonton.ca/available-ice

If you see ice you like, request it via a Google form. HE will then send you an email and CC SWZ Ice allocator if it’s confirmed (first come, first served). Once you and I receive the confirmation from HE, it’s your ice. I’ll forward that to the bookkeeper at SWZ for invoicing.

Please note: this process may change as HE is working to get a live booking site back up and running.

2. City of Edmonton Ice

The City site is a good place to find ice if HE doesn’t have what you’re looking for. They generally release ice in waves around scheduling times.

City ice is a different process. You must email the SWZ ICE allocator directly with the request. Please include ALL of the following details:
- Date
- Start time and end time (please note AM or PM)
- Arena code / name
- Your SWZ team number (i.e SWZ604)

  • If you see a 1 hour or 1.25 hour slot, grab those as is.
  • If you see a 2.5 hour or longer slot but only need part of it, send me the entire slot info AND the portion you want (usually the first 1, 1.25, or 1.5 hours). The City rarely approves a portion that isn’t at the beginning or end of the slot, and won’t approve requests that leave awkward gaps (e.g., 30–45 minutes).Once I receive your request, I’ll send it to Hockey Edmonton and CC you. Then Hockey Edmonton then requests it from the City. If you received a confirmation email from Ray at HE then, it’s yours. He will cc SWZ and we will send to the SWZ bookkeeper who will send you an invoice.

Important notes:
- The City operates Monday–Friday during business hours and is closed all statutory holidays. Requests made late Friday or on a holiday will not be reviewed until the next business day.
- Requests for city ice may take 1–2 days for the City to confirm if staff need to be scheduled. So it is very rare that you will be able to get  for same day ice.
- If you request directly from the City website without going through SWZ , it will be very expensive. This year’s City rate (through Hockey Associations) is $192/hr, which you will be charged.  All bookings must go through SWZ then through Hockey Edmonton.

Please do not email Hockey Edmonton or the City directly with questions. Email me and things will happen much faster. HE only deals with associations’ ice allocators, and the City only deals with HE.

Hope that all makes sense. Good luck and have a great season!
